Stephen Emmer - Mt. Mundane

Mount Mundane is undoubtedly one of Emmer’s most opulent and personal works; the project was recorded in 2024 at Abbey Road Studios, with a lineup of over 30 musicians and in collaboration with international music stars such as Anthony Weeden, Andrew Dudman, Grammy Award-winning choral conductor Nigel Short, pianist Ben Dawson, and treble Joshua Davidson.

I would sincerely recommend that you check out Stephen Emmer’s newest opus. For sure. He is a true Maestro of both instrumentation and orchestration. His melodies are rich, haunting.

This is how music is supposed to be.

In the process I drew inspiration from French composers of the post-impressionist era, such as Caplet, Boulanger, Ravel, and Debussy, each renowned for their vividly colourful fauvist orchestrations and refined harmonisations.

Maison Melody AM:PM is one of the world’s first spatial neo-classical concept-albums in the cutting-edge Dolby Atmos format. Listeners are transported into the world of the composer as they explore the synergy between the pieces the composer creates and the space he inhabits.

Combining a traditional music album, podcast and radioplay, it even hints towards a possible new genre: Cinema for the Ears.

Dolby Atmos its new possibilities break down the barrier between artist and listener, placing the audience directly in the composer’s shoes making for a truly immersive experience like no other.

With this project we wanted to provide insight into not only the fruit of the creative process, but also the process itself.

I used a lot of the gear that’s migrated with me over the years. Lots of re-amping things through pedals & using different percussion instruments.

Home Ground is an album project that is inspired by the eloquence of both orchestral, spiritual soul music and socially conscious lyrics as has been made in the past by the likes of Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Isaac Hayes, Bill Withers and Curtis Mayfield and later on was sampled by influential hip hop artists adding more lyrical topics from that period to the bill.

No doubt one of the most important albums of 2017 is Home Ground: an eloquent and entertaining rebuttal to the voices of nativism.

Home Ground proves to be an eloquent meld of messages and music.

Home Ground is diverse, credible and unique.

The talent is undeniable, and the idea ends up working wonderfully.

More than an exercise, International Blue is about its instantly timeless songs.

Stephen Emmer - Vogue Estate (2015 Remastered)

Vogue Estate is a mini album where the intention was to create a soundtrack for an imaginary film, featuring Dirk Bogarde.

Recently the album got re-mastered by Stephen at Zownd Studios (Leiderdorp, NL) giving the album a defining sound of now treatment, resulting in a fresh and now sounding timeless masterpiece of new wave.

If it was a film.... the opening would be in the mountains, the credits rolling over firm trees as pretty piano melodies float by...

'Wish on' is an altogether darker affair with rasping, hunted cello laid under discordant chords whilst Billy thunders away like an outtake from 'Sulk'. Conversation with him seems futile so we hide behind a tree until he vanishes in a burst of falsetto.

But there is light amongst the trees in the shape of ‘Eleven And Then Left', following the pretty melody to the edge of the forest, where we discover a lonely, abandoned Martha singing her heart out. And there the film gets cut…
