“In my search for meaning I wanted to get in touch again with my younger self and started a musical dialogue with it to see if I, also musically, was still on the the right track in life and did stay true to myself.”
Stephen Emmer - Under Your Spell ft Chaka Khan (Remixes)
One of Home Ground’s standout tracks, the Chaka Khan-featuring ‘Under Your Spell’, has received the remix treatment. SoulBounce was more than happy to bring you the exclusive premiere of the reimagined versions of the song. Stephen called on four superbly talented remixers — Tieks, Dani Hageman, Auro and Moods — to put their own spin on the soulful track, which was co-written by him and Chaka.
One of the standout performances on the album features legendary vocalist Patti Austin on the title cut.
With a simple arrangement fronted by piano, Patti pleads with the audience to address the issues of the day: This is the time for us to stand on higher ground and change the things that we can see.
The album’s standout track ‘Soil’ features Philly spoken word heroine Ursula Rucker. Emmer lays down a delicate bed of music for Rucker’s resonant voice to explore. The track comes complete with jazzy piano chords, thematic strings and a skittering kick and snare pattern that suggests hip-hop.
Stepping confidently into a powerful vocal performance, Rucker plays with the idea of home. Not just home as a physical space, but home as a feeling of safety, love, community and family…
Stephen Emmer - Close to Life ft Frank McComb & Leon Ware
Leon Ware, in what was likely one of his final projects, teamed up with Frank McComb on the anti-war ballad ‘Close To Life’.
Emmer’s empathy for the plight of the world’s uprooted was likely sparked by his experience as a child who traveled the world with his ballerina mother. Her travels took him to India, where he saw the value of diversity and cultural exchange.
Soul Tracks had the WORLD PREMIERE of the powerful collaboration of Emmer with legendary jazz singer and pianist Andy Bey.
Stephen tells us about ‘A New Day To Come’: “Andy Bey is an overlooked legend, who at a young age already was called by the late great John Coltrane ‘his favourite voice’…… here, with his now very experienced and seasoned vocal performance he brings a message of hope in a very soulful way hitting all the right marks.”
Stephen Emmer - Sleep for England ft Julian Lennon (X-Mas)
‘Sleep For England’ is the third release from the critically acclaimed ‘International Blue’ album. A re-work by Julian Lennon of Stephen Emmer and Neil Crossley’s original recording, which featured on the digital release of the album earlier on.
Produced by Tony Visconti, the single has been given all the Xmas trimmings, lovely sleigh bells and a boys-choir against a Twin-Peaks-meets-Lana-del-Rey-type atmospheric background with a rich, definitive vocal from Julian.
Untouchable is a poignant ballad of loss and epic heartbreak, combined with a celebration of life and love. Composed and arranged by Stephen Emmer, the lyrics were written and performed by Glenn Gregory of the pioneering 80’s synth pop band Heaven 17.
Untouchable is a tribute to the late Billy Mackenzie of The Associates, singer on the eponymous hit single ‘Party Fears Two’ a great friend of the band and an exceptionally talented singer, lost to a premature and untimely death.
Taking Back My Time featuring Midge Ure (Ultravox) is the second track from the double A-side single from Dutch composer Stephen Emmer. The track is an exquisite tribute to the lost art and elegance of pop-crooning.
Along with legendary producer Tony Visconti (Iggy Pop, Morrissey, David Bowie, T-Rex) something truly exceptional has been crafted.
Stephen Emmer - Let the Silence Hold You ft Glenn Gregory
The new double A-side single from Dutch composer Stephen Emmer featuring Glenn Gregory (Heaven 17) and Midge Ure (Ultravox) respectively, is an exquisite tribute to the lost art and elegance of pop-crooning.

Passengers featuring Lou Reed was taken from the Recitement album.
On Recitement everything comes together: past and present, death and life, writers and singers, poems and music. Is it Spoken Word Pop? Is it a contemporary audiobook? Or is it music album? Recitement is all of the preceding.
The album is mixed and mastered in NYC by Tony Visconti and features several musical performers such as Blonde Redhead singer Kazu Makino, jazzmusician Benjamin Herman, legendary pianist Mike Garson (Bowie, Smashing Pumpkins), classical singer Maja Roodveldt, old school rapper Shyrock, Joost Kroon of New Cool Collective and popduo Bauer.
